Abstract
Language is a tool used by the author to convey the material of his thoughts and imagination in the process of creating literary works. With the style of language used by the author in his work, the author can express his inner experience and project his personality. This study aims (1) to analyze the figure of speech in the collection of short stories, A Pair of Old Shoes by Sapardi Djoko Damono. (2) To analyze the imagery in the collection of short stories, A Pair of Old Shoes by Sapardi Djoko Damono. (3) To find out the implementation of figure of speech and imagery in the collection of short stories, A pair of Old Shoes by Sapardi Djoko Damono as teaching materials for Indonesian literature in high school. The research method used in this study is a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. The data in this study were 19 titles contained in the collection of short stories A Pair of Old Shoes. While the data source was obtained from a collection of short stories, A Pair of Old Shoes by Sapardi Djoko Damono which was published in 2019 in Jakarta by the publisher PT. Gramedia Pustaka Utama, which has 114 pages. The data collection methods used are note-taking techniques, listening techniques, and literature studies. The data validity technique used triangulation technique. While the data analysis technique uses qualitative analysis techniques using a semiotic reading technique model consisting of heuristic readings and hermeneutic readings. The results of the research on figurative language and imagery in the collection of short stories, A pair of Shoes Tua by Sapardi Djoko Damono, found that there were 109 use of language styles as a whole. With the specification of 27 data on the use of figurative language and as much as 82 data on the use of imagery. Meanwhile, the results of the analysis of the collection of short stories, A Pair of Shoes Tua can be implemented in learning Indonesian language and literature in high school. The Indonesian literature learning material is applied in class XI semester 2 (even).
