Abstract

This study aims to describe the improvement of the personality and professional competence of teachers in Civics learning which was carried out at SMP Muhammadiyah 10 Surakarta. The research method used is descriptive qualitative. Collecting data using the method of observation, interviews, and documentation. Sources of research data come from sources, events, and document review. The data analysis technique uses an interactive analysis model. Test the validity of the data using triangulation of sources and techniques. The results showed that efforts to improve personality and professional competencies carried out by teachers were: 1) teachers always act and behave in accordance with existing norms, 2) teachers always teach to be polite, 3) teachers follow regular monitoring and evaluation, 4) teachers always read books, 5) teachers continue to update knowledge through the internet, training, and training, 6) 2 teachers are actively involved in the deliberations of PPKn subject teachers. Obstacles in improving personality and professional competencies found by teachers are: 1) teachers are required to always update the material with the latest phenomena, 2) teachers must adjust the content of learning devices to the needs of the school, and 3) implementation of character planting for students when learning through less effective online. Efforts are made to overcome these obstacles by means of teachers always guiding and directing students to form good characters and norms.
