Abstract

Thepurpose of this researchare:(1)To identify the cultural diversity represented in the textbook of Bahasa Inggris grade XI by Kementerian Pendidikan dan KebudayaanRepublik Indonesia, (2) To find out how the cultural diversity represented in the textbook of Bahasa Inggris grade XI by Kementerian Pendidikan dan KebudayaanRepublik Indonesia, and (3)To analyze the language function used in the textbook of Bahasa Inggris grade XI by Kementerian Pendidikan dan KebudayaanRepublik Indonesia. In conducting this research, the researcher applied descriptive qualitative study.The data source in this research is an English Textbook. The textbook used in this research is Textbook of Bahasa Inggris Grade XI by Kementerian Pendidikan Dan Kebudayaan Republik Indonesia 2017. In this research, the researcher used triangulation by using investigator of expert judgment and theory. The findings of this researchare: (1) The textbook of Bahasa Inggris grade XI by Kementerian Pendidikan dan KebudayaanRepublik Indonesiais mostly presented by target culture compared to source culture and international culture. The cultures are presented by visual illustrations, readings, names of people, name of places, grammars, speech acts, conversations, songs, poems and other material presented in the chosen textbooks. (2) The cultures in the textbook of Bahasa Inggris grade XI by Kementerian Pendidikan dan KebudayaanRepublik Indonesia are mostly represented by Pragmatic Sense, followed by sociological sense, Aesthetic sense and Semantic Sense. Pragmatic sense is explicitly presented as the Grammar section, pronunciation section, vocabulary section, reading section and speech act section. (3) There were four types of function of language found in the textbook of Bahasa Inggris grade XI by Kementerian Pendidikan dan KebudayaanRepublik Indonesia, they are directive function, expressive or emotive function, conative function, and informational function.
