Abstract

Gender equality is the idea that women and men should have equal conditions and treatment. Every state has a responsibility to protect women from violence based on gender. Therefore, gender equality should be promoted in every spheres of life. One of the movies that took gender equality as its theme is Bombshell (2019) which directed by Jay Roach. This study is analyzing the struggle for gender equality portrayed in Bombshell (2019) movie. Descriptive qualitative approach is used in this study. Liberal feminism theory is applied in this study to analyze the movie. Data sources of this study consist of primary and secondary data. The primary data of this research was taken from Jay Roach’s film, Bombshell (2019). The secondary data for this study came from journals and articles on the internet. There are two findings discovered in this study. The first one is the depiction of the struggle for gender equality in Bombshell (2019). It is depicted through the plot, characters, settings, and style. The second one is reasons behind Jay Roach’s choice of the struggle for gender equality as a theme in Bombshell (2019) movie.
