Abstract
One way to participate in politics is to give voting rights during elections. One of the factors causing the occurrence of abstentions is the low public trust in the government's performance. This study aims to determine the relationship between political trust and voting behavior of students at Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta. The study was conducted on a sample of 127 with a total of 47 male and 80 female respondents. Samples were determined using cluster sampling technique (FEB: 31; FH:32; FP:31; FT:33). This study is a quantitative study using the Political Belief and Voting Behavior scale as a means of collecting data. The results of the analysis obtained sig p = <0,001 (p<0,05) and a correlation efficiency score of 0,508 with a moderate level of closeness. So it can be concluded that there is a positive relationship between the variables of political belief and voting behavior. The results of the analysis in terms of the faculty obtained sig p = 0,135 (p > 0,05) which showed that there was no significant difference. So it can be concluded that the faculty has no effect on the behavior of selecting students. In addition, the results of the analysis in terms of gender obtained sig p = 0,226 (p > 0,05) or there was no significant difference. So it can be seen that gender does not affect students in choosing behavior. However, with a much larger number of female respondents, indicating that women tend to be sympathetic towards the social environment, in determining voting behavior, women will tend to play a greater role in political participation. This study shows that efforts to increase student voting behavior can be done by following political practices that exist in the campus environment.
