Abstract

One of the reason for the family’s lack of knowledge regarding mental disorders is a lack of exposure to information. Due to lack of information and knowledge, it is not appropriate for the family to provide care independently while at home for people with mental disorder, resulting in recurrence. The research aims to knowing the difference in the level of family knowledge about mental disorder before and after being given health education. This research is a quantitative research, using a pre experimental design with a one group pre-test post-test design approach. Research conducted in RSJD Dr. Arif Zainudin Surakarta with a sample of 40 who caregiver people with mental disorders, using technique accidental sampling. Collecting research data using a knowledge questionnaire, the the results are analized using the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test. The result of the study using Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test were obtained significantly (2-tailed) 0,000 < p-value 0,05 which means there is a difference in the level of family knowledge about mental disorder before and after being given health education. Family knowledge about mental disorder is better after being given health education.
