Abstract

Background: Low back pain that occurs without a clear cause can be categorized as non-specific low back pain and can cause pain, muscle stiffness and cause muscle imbalance. Several studies recommend that the Pilates method can be used as an exercise for the prevention and treatment of non-specific low back pain. This study aims to determine and analyze the effect of pilates exercise to reduce pain in patients with non-specific low back pain. Methods: A critical review was conducted by searching for and identifying scientific articles of the type of Randomized Control Trial (RCT) from 2011-2021 that discussed the effect of Pilates exercise on patients with Non-specific low back pain. Articles searched via PEDro, Google Scholar, PubMed, NCBI, Jane Biosemantics. Of the 179 articles found, then 7 articles will then be reviewed. Results: 7 selected articles using quite varied types of pilates exercises. 7 articles reported that Pilates exercise had a significant effect on reducing pain, increasing trunk muscle stabilization, disability, flexibility, strength, and muscle resistance in individuals with non-specific low back pain. in patients with Non-specific low back pain where there is contraction and relaxation of the muscles resulting in no difference in intramuscular pressure pressing on the nociceptors so that the nociceptors will not be stimulated to give pain signals. Conclusion: Based on the results of a critical review of seven selected articles, the Pilates method has an effect on individuals with complaints of low back pain.
