Abstract

Stroke patients will experience a post-stroke phase. In the post-stroke phase, there are balance disorders regarding sensory motors such as loss of ability to feel body balance and posture, as well as loss of coordination to maintain position. One of the exercises that can be done to improve mobility and independence as well as dynamic balance in stroke is sit-to-stand exercise. Because this dynamic balance is closely related to functional activities which is the most important requirement to carry out daily activities safely. This study aims to determine whether there is an effect of sit-to-stand exercise on dynamic balance in stroke patients. This study uses the critical review method, namely by summarizing, analyzing, and evaluating scientific articles of the type of Randomized Control Trial (RCT) from 2011-2022 which discusses the effects of sit-to-stand exercise on dynamic balance in stroke patients. Articles searched through PuBmed, PeDro, Google Schoolar, Science Direct, National Library of Medicine (NCBI). Of the 1,700 articles found, 7 articles were selected which will then be reviewed. 7 selected articles provide several modifications and combinations of sit-to-stand exercises that are quite varied. The administration of modified and combined sit-to-stand exercises produces an excellent exercise program in an effort to improve dynamic balance disorders, muscle strength, posture, coordination, lower extremity strength, and functional activity abilities in stroke patients. Based on the results of the 7 articles reviewed, it was concluded that sit-to-stand exercises, both modified and combined, are effective in improving dynamic balance in stroke patients. it is hoped that this exercise will be able to provide better benefits for stroke patients and in the long term can prevent the risk of poor body function decline, so that they can maintain quality of life and promote a healthy lifestyle by doing regular physical activity.
