Abstract

Poverty is one of the economic problems that is difficult to control and is faced by various countries, including Indonesia. Despite the decline, the number of poor people in Central Java is still relatively high. This study aimed to estimate the effect of investment as measured by the sum of foreign investment and domestic investment and the Human Development Index (HDI) on Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP), as well as GRDP on poverty in Central Java from 2012 to 2019 in 35 districts/cities in Central Java from 2012 to 2019. The model used in this study was panel data regression using a Fixed Effect Model (FEM) approach. The results of this study showed that investment had no effect on GRDP, HDI had a positive effect on GRDP, then GRDP had a negative effect on poverty. Meanwhile, HDI had a negative effect on poverty and investment had no effect on poverty. Thus, the chain rule principle was proven in this study. To reduce the poverty rate, it is suggested that the government improve the quality of education and health services, improve promotion and quality of featured product of each region, and distribute investments to provide welfare for the community and reduce poverty.
