Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the metallographic structure and shear strength of point difference welding of materials using zinc powder media with variations in welding time. The materials used are mild steel with a thickness of 0.9 mm and 3000 series aluminum with a thickness of 1.2 mm. The welding process uses a holding time parameter of 5 seconds, currents of 8000 A and 9000 A, with variations in welding time of 0.3 seconds, 0.4 seconds, and 0.5 seconds. Macro photo and SEM testing standards use ASTM E3-01 and weld joint tensile testing standards using ASME IX standards. The results of the macro photo show that variations in welding time affect the size of the nugget width, the greater the welding time, the larger the nugget width. The results of the SEM test show that as the welding time increases, the heat generated will be greater, so that the welding penetration will be deeper, the density and density of the weld joint will be more optimal. The results of the tensile test show the value of the shear stress of the welded joint at a variation of the welding time of 0.5 seconds, current of 9000 A, hoding time of 5 seconds of 790N.
