Abstract

This research is aimed to analyse the headmaster’s efforts, including the stages in developing teachers’ performance. Another aim is to find out the factor of support and obstacle in headmaster’s role in developing teacher’s performance at SMK Muhammadiyah Kunduran, Blora District, Central Java. This research is a study case research using ethnographic qualitative approach. The data collection has been done by using participants observation, interview and documentation techniques. Data analysis has been done by using case analysis technique. Meanwhile, for the data validity, the researcher uses credibility, transferability, dependability and confirmability. The result of the research shows that: 1) the headmaster’s ability in actualise the vision and mission to the teachers’ performance at SMK Muhammdiyah Kunduran is reflected by the headmaster’s behaviour in designing school vision and mission during the discussion. The design of school program is based on its quality standards, promotion of exemplary and involvement of school community in developing teachers’ performance; 2) the ability to motivate the teachers at SMK Muhammadiyah Kunduran is reflected by the effort in improving school activities quality, school facilities, teachers’ performance, good and qualified management; 3) The ability to innovate in developing teachers’ performance at SMK Muhammadiyah Kunduran stands on the 8 education quality standards, a good communication, the meet of the newest practice tools, the invitation of guest teachers from chosen industry, and the opportunity to send teachers for internship in chosen industry; 4) The headmaster’s role in giving attentiveness to each teacher at SMK Muhammadiyah Kunduran is done by a special training which is done once a week for all teachers. This is done to specifically identify the emerged issues to find the best solution. Key Words: Leadership, Headmaster’ Role, Teacher’s Performance
