Abstract

Islam regulates human life from various segments, including the social segment, namely a family. A man in this religion, is allowed to have more than one wife, called polygamy. However, in its application there are several rules and regulations that must be fulfilled both before marriage and after. The biggest goal that prompted us to conduct research on the causes of the failure of the practice of polygamy in the Glondong hamlet, Wirokerten Village, Banguntapan District, Bantul Regency, Yogyakarta is that some people practice polygamy without being accompanied by a deep understanding of the principles of polygamy and careful consideration. what is suitable time for polygamy and how polygamy can be applied. As a result, there is a bad stigma against the practice of polygamy which is one part of Islamic law which is exhaled by Islamic law phobias from among infidels and hypocrites or people who do not understand Islamic law. The method we apply is qualitative research. This is a descriptive analysis of the research topic to obtain results based on various data from various sources, results from interviews and participant observations for later processing. And the results of the research that we conducted at the research site on the causes of the failure of the practice of polygamy in that place, among others: the existence of practices that are not true to the Shari'a of polygamy, all of which stem from the existence of erroneous concepts related to polygamy and the existence of desires that It is great to practice polygamy without being accompanied by adequate abilities from all sides, because it prioritizes lust without considering the consequences in depth, this is because of wrong practices and haste in implementing it so that it seems premature and forced. And we want to enlighten all parties, that polygamy is the best alternative to all man-made lifestyles, as long as living it is based on careful consideration and sharia concepts. Without it, all that will arise is failure and a bad image, and the impact of killing the polygamy law itself.
