Abstract
Exclusive breastfeeding provides many benefits for the baby and the mother. Nevertheless, the achievement of exclusive breastfeeding in Indonesia is still low. One of the factors that influence exclusive breastfeeding is the implementation of Early Initiation of Breastfeeding (EIBF). EIBF is one of the variables that is often analyzed as one of the determinants proven to increase the success of exclusive breastfeeding. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between EIBF implementation and the success of exclusive breastfeeding in Indonesia. The method used is a literature (narrative) review of journal articles with a cross-sectional and case-control research design in the last 10 years indexed by Sinta (at least Sinta 4) through the Google Scholar database and the National Library. The inclusion criteria used were journal articles with full text written in Indonesian or English and the research subjects were mothers with infants aged < 24 months. Based on the completeness of the articles reviewed (n=8) found 5 articles that included two abstracts in Indonesian and English, wrote the exclusion criteria (n=2), wrote down the population size (n=2), and described the sample formula (n=1). All reviewed articles (n=8) stated that there was a significant relationship between the two variables. The article with multivariate analysis (n=2) stated that BMI was the most dominant factor in influencing the success of exclusive breastfeeding. Therefore, it is concluded that EIBF can directly affect exclusive breastfeeding so that a program is needed to improve the implementation of EIBF as a method to increase the achievement of exclusive breastfeeding in Indonesia.
