Abstract

It is very important to instill the value of character education in students. The steps taken by the government, especially the Ministry of Education and Culture in instilling the value of character education, are to replace the curriculum used in Indonesia. Kurikulum 2013 was chosen to replace the 2006 KTSP. Character education values are designed for each lesson. Learning is assembled on a theme and poured into a textbook. Student books are one of the tools used in instilling the value of character education. The 4th grade student book theme 3 was chosen by the researcher to analyze the value of character education in it. This study aims to determine the value of character education contained in the 4th grade student book theme 3. This research is a qualitative descriptive study with a document study research design. The subject of the research was the 4th grade student's book theme 3 "care for living things". Data collection techniques using document techniques. The data analysis technique used content analysis techniques. The data validity technique used validity and reliability techniques. The results showed that: (1) The value of character education contained in the 4th grade student book theme 3 "caring for living things" there were only 12 character education values (2) 6 character education values were not found in the 4th grade student book theme 3 "care towards living things” (3) There are 3 values of character education which are mostly found in 4th grade students' books theme 3. 3 values of character education, namely the value of friendly/communicative character education appears 35 times. The value of reading character education appeared 19 times. The value of character education for environmental care appears 20 times.
