Abstract
Background: Intelligence can include paying attention, observing, remembering, thinking, and other mental activities. Several factors that affect intelligence are the fulfillment of nutrients in breast milk, namely AA, DHA, carbohydrates and fats that affect brain development. Early childhood requires nutrition for the growth and development of the body and brain, therefore the nutrition must be sufficient and balanced. Objective: This study aimed to determine the correlation between exclusive breastfeeding and the level of intelligence in early childhood in Teras Boyolali District. Research Methodology: This study used a case control study design with a total of 54 respondents who were selected using systematic random sampling. Exclusive breastfeeding data was obtained by filling out a questionnaire and intelligence data was obtained by measuring using the Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence method. The statistical analysis used was the Rank Spearman test. Results: Children with exclusive breastfeeding were 75.9%. Children with intelligent intelligence levels were 13 children (24.1%), the average intelligent were 15 (27.8%), 19 (35.2%) and 7 children (13%). The results of exclusive breastfeeding with the level of intelligence in early childhood showed a correlation with p = 0.034. Conclusion: There was a correlation between exclusive breastfeeding and the level of intelligence in early childhood in Teras Boyolali District.
