Abstract

Abstract Technological developments have led to changes in lifestyle, one of which is a consumptive lifestyle because of social media, for example Instagram. This is evidenced by the number of Instagram accounts that show expensive items. This study uses an explanative method to explain the effect of independent variables on the dependent variable. The population of this research is members of the Bontang student association in Yogyakarta with a sample of 84 respondents using random sampling techniques. The research used the data analysis method using a questionnaire, with the data analysis technique used was simple linear regression. The results of this study indicate that there is an effect of a consumptive lifestyle on members of the Bontang student association in Yogyakarta. Evidenced by the t value of 7.682 is greater than the t table value of 1.975, with a significance value of 0.052 ≥ α = 0.05. It is known that the Rsquare value is 0.045 so that it affects the consumptive lifestyle of the members of the Bontang student association in Yogyakarta, which is 4.5%.
