Abstract

The aims of this study are: 1) To determine the level of feasibility of teaching materials in the form of comic books developed for Integrated Social Studies material for class VII sub-theme of Natural Conditions of Indonesia in the introduction of UHI to students at SMP Muhammadiyah 10 Surakata. 2) Knowing the development of teaching materials in the form of comics as an effort to introduce UHI to students at SMP Muhammadiyah 10 Surakata. This study uses a learning media development model (research and development / R&D) by using 4D development research steps which were modified by researchers into 3D. The development in this research was obtained by product development and product testing. The product of this research produces comic media with the coverage of explanatory material, namely UHI (urban heat island), the impact of UHI (urban heat island) and UHI (urban heat island) mitigation. The results obtained state that: 1) The results of the needs test conducted on seventh grade students and teachers show that students and teachers do not yet know what UHI is, the impact of UHI, and mitigation of UHI disasters. From these results, comics were made to support learning about UHI. 2) The learning media based on climate material comics in Indonesia's urban heat island for grade VII students that was developed has met the eligibility criteria which got a score of 4.4 and 4.6 based on validation by material experts and media experts in the "very feasible" category. The results of the media feasibility assessment obtained 4.3 which are included in the "very feasible" category. This value makes comics media as a learning medium that is developed suitable for use in the learning process of social studies subjects in climate material in Indonesia (urban heat island).
