Abstract

Since the bubonic plague, numerous development attempts have been conducted. However, due to the end of the building's original functions after the outbreak, most quarantine facilities were no longer utilized. The emergence of contradictions about how efforts should be made in providing quarantine facilities that save costs and time but still meet health standards. It’s very ineffective to construct a new building or convert an old building in preparing quarantine facilities, both have their advantages and disadvantages. There is an urgent need to create a facility that is always ready to be used in the event of an outbreak and will not become a dead building once the epidemic has ended. This study aims to develop a multifunctional hotel that unites a commercial facility and a quarantine facility in one building to support users' physical and mental health. Multiple approaches to design are required, such as the concept of commercial, multifunctional, and healthy building. The multifunctional concept is obtained by conducting a spatial program study from the data through the methods of cross-programming, trans-programming, and dis-programming. The design method is used to understand that the elements of a hotel room as a commercial facility and a responsive facility can alternate, can be combined, and can interfere with each other, resulting in a synthesis of a critical new design program. In this case, a multifunctional hotel becomes a building with sustainable use, which means it can be utilized continuously even if its purpose changes.
