Abstract
Introduction: Online lectures have an impact on increasing the amount of coffee consumption among students. Consuming coffee as a source of caffeine can have an effect on the incidence of screen-time and the level of physical activity of students. Research Objectives: This study aimed to determine the correlation between coffee consumption and screen-time and physical activity levels of students at Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta. Research Methodology: Observational with a cross sectional research design. The number of samples was as many as 107 students obtained by purposive sampling method. Data on coffee consumption, screen-time, and level of physical activity were obtained using an online questionnaire. Univariate analysis using Kolmogorov-Smirnov test and bivariate analysis using Rank Spearman statistical test. Results: Percentage of normal coffee consumption was 56.1%, low caffeine intake was 67.3%, coffee volume was 240 ml (35.5%), acceptable screen-time was 53.3%, and moderate level of physical activity was 47.7%. There was no correlation between the frequency of coffee consumption with screen-time (ρ = 0.92). There was no significant relationship between caffeine intake and screen-time (ρ = 0.41). There was a significant correlation between coffee volume and screen-time (ρ = 0.02). There was no correlation between the frequency of coffee consumption with the level of physical activity (ρ = 0.99), caffeine intake with the level of physical activity (ρ = 0.06), and the volume of coffee with the level of physical activity (ρ = 0.75). Conclusion: There was a significant correlation between coffee volume and screen-time, the higher the average coffee volume, the higher the screen-time duration. There was no significant correlation between coffee consumption and the level of physical activity, high coffee consumption is not matched by the severity of physical activity.
