Abstract
This study aims to (1) describe the structure in the novel Nayla by Djenar Maesa Ayu, (2) describe the image of women in the novel Nayla by Djenar Maesa Ayu in terms of feminist literary criticism, (3) describe the implementation of the image of women in the novel Nayla by Djenar Maesa Ayu as teaching materials for literature in high school. The type of research used in this research is descriptive qualitative research. The object of this research is the image of women in the novel Nayla by Djenar Maesa Ayu while the object is the novel Nayla by Djenar Maesa Ayu. The research data used in this study are sentences that show the image of women in the novel Nayla by Djenar Maesa Ayu. The primary data source is Nayla's novel. secondary data sources are journals, books, and other sources related to research. Data collection techniques used library techniques. The data validity technique used is theoretical triangulation and data triangulation. The data analysis technique used is semiotic reading, namely heuristic and hermeneutic reading. The results of the study are (1) positive and negative female image: a) positive female image: female image as a strong person and image of women who love their parents. b) negative image of women: images of women who like the same sex and images of women who drink alcohol and use drugs. (2) the image of women in a broken home, (3) the image of women in society: a) the image of Nayla as an activist for the women's movement, b) the image of Nayla as an education figure, c) the image of Nayla against violence against women. (4) the social image of women: the social image of women in educational institutions and the social image of women in the mass media. The novel Nayla by Djenar Maesa Ayu can be used in learning Indonesian in class XII SMA using KD 3.9 which is guided by Permendikbud No.21 of 2016 which is "analyzing the content and language of the novel".
