Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of government spending, human development index, working population, and inflation on the minimum wage on the island of Sumatra in 2014-2019. The data used in this study is secondary data sourced from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) and the Directorate General of Fiscal Balance and analyzed by panel data regression. Based on the results of the Chow test and Hausman test, the fixed effect model (FEM) is the best model. The results of the t-test show that the variables of government spending and inflation have no effect on the minimum wage, while the variables of the human development index and the number of working people have an influence on the minimum wage on the island of Sumatra. The F test results prove that the fixed effect model approach exists. The coefficient of determination is 97.48%, which means that the variation of the minimum wage variable can be explained by the government spending variable, the human development index variable, the number of working population variables, and the inflation variable. The remaining 2.52%, explained by other independent variables not included in the model.
