Abstract
Rusunawa Begalon is the first simple rental flat in the city of Solo which was established with the initial aim of overcoming the problem of slum settlements. However, it turns out that the impression of slums has not disappeared due to the limited living area and the large amount of unproductive land, making the quality of life less feasible and healthy, especially for the children there. Therefore, Rusunawa Begalon Surakarta needs special attention so that it can become a vertical residence that functions optimally for its residents. This planning and design aims to redesign the Rusunawa Begalon building as an Urban Living and Farming in Solo City which not only functions as a residence, but also accommodates public activities in the form of economic and social activities in it. The building is designed with the concept of Biophilic Design that can foster a positive relationship between human life and nature. In addition, the interactions that arise as a result of public activities in the Rusunawa environment with local residents also strengthen social relations. Thus, the application of the concept of urban living, farming, and Biophilic Design to the Rusunawa building as well as the addition of several functions of the space in it can be a way to improve the quality of life in the Rusunawa Begalon Surakarta environment.
