Abstract

Banyumas Region has many cultural arts, starts from dancing, music until culinary. Those create attraction toward local & foreign tourist. Based on area context, it is on equatorial area and has tropical climate also global warming problems that caused by the excessive building’s emissions, so building should able to response the local climate to create thermal comfort without depends on the emissioned-machine. Thus, the problem identification is how to design a place that functioned as the central for Banyumas art & culture activities by tropical architecture approachment, and the architectural problems are: a) How to design a mass structure that functioned as the central for Banyumasan art & culture activities.; b) How to implement the architecture that can response tropical condition in Purwokerto Art & Cultural Space. The aims is to design a place that functioned for the central for Banyumasart & culture activities by tropical architecture approachment. The concept that be applied is through tropical architecture can create a comfortable space. Functionally, it applies ‘see and treat’ concept for the tourist, means beside only watch they also can directly interact with Banyumas attractions. The design process started by the literature study to look for the requirements, then data observation, interview & documentation. Then case study, and the physic and non physic data analysis as the design support, and the last is determine the planning concept as the focus for the planning. The planning results is creating art & culture space based on tropical architecture and can serve the tourist maximumly.
