Abstract

Knowledge can influence the formation of a person's behavior in the practice of using drugs. Knowledge is formed after a person senses certain events. Limited knowledge about active ingredients and how to use drugs can cause medication errors in self-medication. This study aims to determine the relationship between the level of knowledge with acne self-medication actions taken, and to find out how much influence the level of knowledge of UMS Pharmacy students on acne self-medication measures. This research was conducted with a descriptive cross sectional method with a survey method using a questionnaire. The sampling technique used is stratified random sampling with 90 respondents. The study population was directed to all UMS Pharmacy students with the inclusion criteria of active undergraduate students of Pharmacy who had or were experiencing acne problems and had or were taking acne self-medication. Data analysis was performed by simple linear regression test. The majority of respondents (80%) are female with 72 out of a total of 90 respondents. The most widely used anti-acne drugs by respondents were drugs with a combination of salicylic acid and sulfur (30%). The active ingredient chosen by the respondents was dominated by salicylic acid (40.8%), and 60% of the respondents received information about self-medication from social media. There is a significant correlation between the variables of the respondent's knowledge level and the self-medication action which is indicated by the regression significance level of 0.004, while the large influence of the knowledge level variable on the self-medication action is only 8.9%.
