Abstract

Expressive speech acts are speech acts that state something that is being felt by the speaker. These speech acts tell the speaker's psychological statements and these speech acts may be caused by something the speaker or listener did, but all of them relate to the experience of the speaker. The objectives of this study are: (1) Describing the function of expressive speech acts found on Facebook status. (2) Describing the relevance of expressive speech acts on Facebook status as teaching materials for Indonesian in SMP. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. The data of this research are in the form of expressive speech acts taken from social media Facebook. The data collection technique used is the observation and note method. Meanwhile, the data analysis was carried out in 4 stage, namely identification, classification, interpretation, and reporting. The results of this study indicate that there are function of expressive speech acts and their relevance as teaching materials for Indonesian in SMP. Expressive speech acts were found in the form of: saying thank you, apologizing, saying congratulations, criticizing, praising, complaining, and saying condolences.
