Abstract
Saron is a traditional Javanese musical instrument which formed of blades made of bronze, namely an alloy of copper (Cu) and tin (Sn), with an alloy ratio of three to ten where 23% tin (Sn) and 77% copper (Cu) with manual forging and quenching processes. Generally, the cooling process uses water cooling media. In this research, the purpose of this research is to compare the loudness and roughnessvalues of the tone 2 (ro) of three quenching methods using water, oil, and room temperature and to find out the value of the microstructure and the composition of the saron tone 2 (ro). From the results of testing the loudness value there is adifference between the cooling media of water, oil, and air. Where the value of loundness with water cooling media is 155 BHN, oil is 245 BHN and air is 184 BHN. From the results of the surface roughness test, the results are as follows, for the roughness value of saron blades using water cooling media has a roughness value of 1.2000 µm, for oil cooling media 0.3096 µm, and for air conditioning media it has a value of of 0.2904 µm. The results of the microstructur test were different for the copper (Cu) structure. And the results of chemical composition testing, there is a difference in the percentage composition of copper (Cu) and tin (Sn), where for cooling media the Cu content is 81.48% and Sn 18.31%, for oil cooling media the content of Cu is 78.24% and Sn 21.48%, for air conditioning media the content of Cu is 77.44% and Sn is 22.11%.
