Abstract
Diabetes mellitus is a group of metabolic diseases whom characterized by hyperglycemia that occurs due to abnormalities in insulin secretion, insulin action or both. In 2045 the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) estimates that the prevalence of DM in the world will increase with the number of sufferers of 629 million people. The data above shows that the number of people with Diabetes Mellitus in Indonesia are massive. The motivation factor and family support have a major influence on dietary compliance for diabetes mellitus sufferers. The purpose of this study was to determine the correlation between family support and patient motivation with dietary compliance of DM. This type of research is descriptive correlative quantitative with a cross sectional approach. A sample of 74 respondents was taken using the simple random sampling technique from the entire population, DM patients who met the criteria with a questionnaire as a measuring tool and were statistically tested using the Kendall's tau-b test. The results of the correlation test between family support and dietary adherence through the Kendall's tau-b test were 0.782 with a P Value of 0.000 and the results of the test for the correlation between patient motivation and diet compliance were 0.717 with a P value of 0.000, so it was concluded that there was a correlation between family support and patient motivation with dietary compliance of DM. Suggestion for further research is to conduct qualitative research and be carried out door-to-door so that the results obtained are more accurate.
