Abstract

This study aimed to estimate the effect of regional gross domestic product, industrial agglomeration, dependency ratio, and average length of schooling on unemployment in the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY) in 2015-2020. The analytical method used is panel data regression with a cross-section covering five districts/cities, including Kulonprogo, Bantul, Gunungkidul, Sleman, and Yogyakarta. Meanwhile the time-series data covered a span of six years from 2015 to 2020. Based on the results of the model selection test, it was found that fixed effect model (FEM) was statistically proven to be the best model. The results of the test showed that the GDP a negative effect on unemployed, while the dependency ratio positive effect unemployed in DIY. Meanwhile, industrial agglomeration and the average length of schooling had no effect on the number of unemployed. Suggestions that can be given in this study are that the government needs to add adequate employment opportunities for the community and organize training institutions to hone HR skills to reduce the number of unemployed. Keyword: unemployment, GDRB, industrial agglomeration, dependency ratio, average years of schooling, panel data regression analysis
