Abstract
This study aims to determine the characterization of gray cast iron material due to the effect of FeSi 4% + FeMn 4% on the casting process with iron mold and sand mold. The material was made using gray cast iron with a variation of the element FeSi 4% + FeMn 4%. The manufacturing process uses the sand casting method using metal molds and sand molds. Then the material from the casting is cut and then tested using the hardness testing method, microstructure and SEM EDS. The result of this test, the highest hardness lies in the bottom metal mold which has an average hardness of 259 BHN and the lowest toughness is located in the upper sand mold, which has an average hardness of 184 BHN. In the microstructure test, the results obtained were ferrite and pearlite phases, dominated by the pearlite phase and obtained smooth and elongated graphite. In the SEM test at 2000x magnification, it was seen that the density in the metal mold was smoother than in the sand mold.
