Abstract

This study discusses the modeling of renewable energy systems and simulations for electric trains, in the era of modern society solar energy has the potential to become alternative energy to replace fossil energy sources. Environmental considerations are a factor in the development of solar electric trains aiming to become a renewable, economical and emission-free means of transportation. This modeling uses a PLTS (Solar Power Plant) system on the grid. PLTS itself apart from solar cells as its main component, other components such as control units, converters and grids are needed according to the needs of the on-grid system. System modeling is done using HOMER software by collecting data in the form of; load profile and solar resources data. system modeling can be done either manually or with HOMER optimization. The economic parameters used in this simulation are Net Present Cost (NPC) and Cost of Energy (COE). The most optimal on-grid configuration system for solar electric trains at the Purwosari traction substation consists of 2000 kW PV, 2000 kW MPPT, 5.540 MW PLN grid and 2835 kW converter at the Gawok traction substation, the only difference being the 3190 KW converter. In Purwosari modeling the PV contribution is 30%, in Gawok the PV contribution is 28.3%. With 1143 solar modules with a power of 350 Wp arranged in series. The excess electric power in Purwosari is 638,198 kWh/yr, Gawok is 1,097,035 kWh/yr. The difference in the load of the two substations of 467.26 kWh/d of the same solar resources data can affect the modeling results very significantly. The two traction substations will experience a return on investment in the 1st year in the 3rd month.
