Abstract
Background: Hyperglycemia or often referred to as excess glucose levels is a metabolic disease caused by disruption of insulin secretion, the action of the insulin, even because both or commonly diagnosed with Diabetes Mellitus (DM. The type of DM that accounts for the most numbers) Incidence is type 2 diabetes, where the prevalence reaches 90-95% of the total incidence. Physiological changes in muscle mass are manifested in the form of weakness and atrophy in the lower extremities (Andersen, 2012). This causes a reduction in muscle strength in the lower limbs and there is a balance disorder (IJzerman et all, 2012) Objective: To determine the relationship between lower limb muscle strength and dynamic balance in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients. To determine the differences in lower extremity muscle strength and dynamic balance in patients with and without type 2 diabetes mellitus. Research Benefits: results This research can be used as a scientific study of physiotherapy and is used as a consideration for comparison of other studies. Methods : The study used normality tests with Shapiro-wilk. Bivariate test using Pearson Correlation product moment if data is normal and spearman rho if data is abnormal. Test differently by using independent t-test. Results : The bivariate test has a significance value of 0.007 < 0.05, hence the collation. So it can be concluded that there is a strong, positive relationship between the strength of the lower extremity muscles and dynamic balance in patients with type 2 DM. While the value of lower extremity muscle strength and dynamic balance in patients without DM type 2 is 0.113 > 0.05 then there is no correlation. Based on mann whitney test on muscle strength between patients with and without DM type 2 obtained results of Asymp.Sig (2-tailed) 0,085 > 0,then there was no difference. Different tests influence on dynamic balance in patients with and without DM type 2 obtained results 0,992 > 0,05 then there is no difference. Conclusion : There is a moderate correlation between lower extremity muscle strength and dynamic balance in patients with diabetus mellitus type 2 as well, there is no difference in lower ectremitas muscle strength and dynamic balance in patients with and without type 2 diabetes mellitus.
