Abstract

Abstract WHO declared the spread of Covid-19 around the world a pandemic. Covid-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) is a disease caused by a new type of coronavirus, namely Sars-CoV-2. The corona virus (Covid-19) has spread throughout Indonesia and North Sumatra Province is one of the provinces with a fairly high number of Covid-19. With the limitation of activities during the Covid-19 pandemic, it has led to an increase in the use of social media in the community. The purpose of this study was to analyze the Instagram content used by the Governor of North Sumatra Province during the Covid-19 Pandemic. This research is a descriptive quantitative research with a content analysis approach. Sampling using purposive sampling technique, with a total sample of 104 Covid-19 uploads. The results showed that message targets tended to lead to providing information about Covid-19 (38.5%), target targets tended to lead to the general public (74%), message content tended to lead to preventive activities (37.5%), reference messages tend to lead to no reference (85.6%) and message intonation tends to lead to positive messages (97.1%). The highest number of likes on Instagram accounts is on uploads of condolences for the death of medical personnel and the highest number of comments is on uploads or posts regarding the prohibition of going home which were uploaded on March 24, 2020. Suggestions for the Governor of North Sumatra are expected to expand the range of messages communicated not only to the general public but to several organizations that can be involved in risk communication and through messages that can be understood and can provide confidence with existing health problems.
