Abstract

District roads are important transportation infrastructure to accelerate the growth of social and economic development. The Nogosari-Mangu has a road length of ± 12 km and is classified as class III A with a type of continuous damage. The dry season period identified damage conditions in the form of cracked beams, while the period of the rainy season in a hollow condition to the decrease of the shoulder of the road. Information on the geomorphological condition of an area is indispensable in the construction and maintenance of roads so that, problems related to geomorphological conditions can be anticipated as early as possible and can suppress development financing and maintenance. Geomorphological information on the waking path is still needed as a basis for repair so that the type of damage and its cause can be known. This study aims to find out the units of terrain in the area of road sections that can then be categorized based on the class of terrain suitability for the road and know the factors that cause the road area to be inappropriate. The study used descriptive survey methods based on factors that influenced and analyzed descriptively-comparatively. The results showed that there was a grouping of three forms of land origin which were then generalized into fourteen units of terrain (14) based on a distance of 2 km from the road. The terrain crossed by nogosari-mangu road as many as nine (9) units of terrain with two criteria of terrain conformity class namely class III (Quite Appropriate) and IV (Not Appropriate) and if entering the limiting factor (inhibitor) on the characteristics of each terrain there are 2 limiting factors in the class of conformity, namely class III r, t, p, h and class IV r,g,t,p,h,pl. The area of field III's coolness class for the road is 1562.58 ha with a percentage of 58.48%, while the area of field IV's coolness class for the road is 1109.01 ha with a percentage of 41.52% of the entire research area. Class III with limiting factors in the form of relief conditions, soil, process and hydrology means showing the physical condition of the terrain for road construction is quite supportive but with a variety of requirements in continuous and regular maintenance at a rather expensive cost. Class IV with limiting factors relief conditions, soil, process, land use and hydrological conditions means to show that the physical condition of the terrain for road construction is not supportive because there is a possibility of a considerable and continuous risk of road damage and relatively expensive maintenance costs.
