Abstract

Acute respiratory infections (ARI) is a communicable disease that can infect the upper and lower respiratory tract. Under five childern are an age group that is susceptible to ARI. ARI in under five childern can be caused by various factors, one of which is under five childern who play and are exposed to the outside environment that can come into contact with ARI sufferers so that under five childern are at risk of getting ARI. Mother's knowledge plays an important role in determining the health status of her child, in this case, especially knowledge about ARI. Not only in preventing ARI in under five childern but also in treating ARI in under five childern to prevent under five childern mortality. Based on a preliminary study, ARI is the most common disease suffered by children under five in Gondang Primary Health Care area. This study aims to see how the description of mother’s knowledge about ARI in children under five in Gondang Primary Health Care area. This study is a quantitative research with a descriptive approach. The population in this study is the number of visits to the Mother’s and Child’s Health service at Gondang Primary Health Care from March 2019 to February 2020. This study used a sampling technique of simple random sampling. This study used the average of visits to the Mother’s and Child’s Health service at Gondang Primary Health Care as sample. The amount of the sample is 54 mothers with under five childern who met the inclution criteria. Measurement of knowledge using a questionnaire with 25 statements. The results showed that 61.1% of respondents had good knowledge, 35.2% of respondents had sufficient knowledge, and 3.7% of respondents had insufficient knowledge. The conclusion of this study is that most respondents in this study have good knowledge. Mother's knowledge should be in good category, hoped that mothers can increase their knowledge about the transmission of ARIs.
