Abstract

A case study entitled, "THE ROLE OF MOSQUE AS A NONFORMAL ISLAMIC EDUCATION INSTITUTION (Case Study at Laweyan Mosque, Belukan, Pajang, Laweyan, Surakarta in 2021) was held to describe the role of mosques as non-formal Islamic educational institutions. Research data is obtained through the triangulation method, namely: 1) observation at the research location, namely the Laweyan Mosque, 2) Laweyan Mosque management documentation, and 3) interviews with the takmir chairman, the TPQ chairperson and teacher, as well as the Laweyan Mosque congregation to obtain information based on the experience of the research subject related to the research focus. The collected research data is then processed in three stages, namely: 1) simplifying data, 2) presenting data in the form of images, tables and charts, and 3) drawing conclusions. The research results show that: 1) Laweyan Mosque is a non-formal Islamic education institution that has two roles, namely: internal cadre for mosque takmirs through guidance in the aspects of mosque management and external cadre for mosque congregations through integrated Islamic education, 2) Contribution of Laweyan Mosque For more than four centuries as a non-formal Islamic education institution, it can be seen from the ability of mosques to accommodate and fulfill the needs of Islamic education in the community through various existing Islamic education programs or activities, such as: Pengajian Ahad Barokah, TPQ, Tasmi 'Al-Quran, Majelis Ta'lim, Tadarus Al-Quran, Tahsin Al-Quran, and Purnomosidi recitation, 3) The success of the Laweyan Mosque in efforts to develop the role and empowerment of the potential of the mosque as one of the non-formal Islamic educational institutions is not from the size of the operational funds used. But there is synergy and continuity between the three important elements in mosque management, namely: 'idarah, 'imarah, and ri'ayah.
