Abstract

This research is a morphological study. This study aims (1) to describe the types of word formation found in the Tempo newspapers, (2) to describe how word formation is formed in the Tempo newspapers. This research is descriptive qualitative. The data of this research were sentences containing part of word formation. The data were collected from Tempo newspaper using documentation. To analyze types of word formation and word are formed the theory of Plag (2003) and Yule (2010) were deployed. The results of this study showed that-out of 50 data, there are four types of word formation consisting of Abbreviation (32 data), Compounding (9 data), Coinage (2 data), and Acronym (7 data) in the Tempo newspapers. The researcher concluded that the type of word formation that is most often found in the newspapers Tempo is the abbreviation and the one that is rarely found is coinage.
