Abstract
Seeing students who have difficulty solving algebraic problems which make them get unsatisfactory grades. Research Objectives (1) Analyze student errors in reading questions to get important points on questions in accordance with their understanding of algebra problems, (2) Analyze errors in understanding problems to obtain information in accordance with understanding of algebra problems, (3) Analyze student errors in transforming to connecting what is known to what is asked in accordance with understanding of algebra problems, (4) analyzing student errors in problem solving skills in accordance with procedures for algebra questions, (5) analyzing student errors in writing the results of algebra questions. This type of research is qualitative with descriptive methods. The subjects of this study were 20 students from the Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta class A in the 2020/2021 Basic Mathematics subject, each of which had been categorized into high, medium and low criteria. Data collection techniques using documentation, online written tests and interviews. Research Results: (1) The percentage of reading errors was 3.75% (2) The percentage of misunderstanding was 6.25% (3) The percentage of transformation errors was 30% (4) The percentage of errors in processing ability was 50%. (5) The encoding error percentage is 47.5%.
