Abstract
The purpose of this study was to see the effect of adding zinc powder in the welding process between aluminum and steel on mechanical strength and to determine the microstructure of the weld joint. The research specimens used were aluminum 6061, steel, filler ER 4043, and zinc powder. In this study, the standard for specimen manufacture was ASTM E8. Microstructure testing is used to see the layers that occur in different brazed welding materials. The results showed that the highest tensile strength was found in strikes without additional zinc powder, namely 14,971 MPa, while specimens with zinc powder obtained the highest yield of 12,888 MPa. In the connection between the aluminum and the ER 4043 filler, the filler is joined to the aluminum because the main content of aluminum and the filler is the same, namely AlSi, while at the connection between steel and the ER 4043 filler an intermetallic layer is formed.
