Abstract
Zingiber ottensii Val. (bangle hantu) is a member of the Zingiberaceae family which has pharmacological effects such as antibody, antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, anti-neolpasmic, immunomodulatory, and anti-cancer. This review was prepared in order to determine the anti-cancer activity of the ghost bangle (Zingiber ottensii Val.) And the mechanism of action of secondary metabolites isolated from the ghost bangle. The preparation of this review was sourced from articles obtained through the PubMed and Google Schoolar database with keywords namely bangle hantu or Zingiber ottensi (Val.); cancer or sarcoma or carcinoma. The inclusion criteria used were original articles or full text research articles about the potential anticancer activity of ghosts (Zingiber ottensii Val.) With the publication year 2011-2020. Based on these criteria, 4 suitable articles were obtained. The analysis showed that there was anticancer activity obtained from cysteine protease isolates and also metabolites produced from the extraction of ghost bangle. The most abundant metabolites contained are zerumbone and 1,4-terpineol which are known to have anticancer activity in different cancer cells with healing targets in the following mechanisms: (1) induction of apoptosis, (2) anti-angiogensis, and (3) inhibition of the cell cycle.
