Sleep is one of important human needs. Poor sleep health will increase the risk of developing cardiovascular disease, diabetes mellitus type 2, and other negative effects. One of the factors that cause sleep disorders is lack of physical activity. About 30-50% of the world’s population had an experience poor sleep quality and lack of physical activity. Purpose: The purpose of study is to know the relations between physical activity and sleep quality in young adult in East Jakarta. Methods: This research was an observational study with cross sectional approach. The research sample taken is young adult aged 20-29 in East Jakarta. The sample size was calculated using the slovin formula and the minimum sample size is 400. The sampling technique was used snowball sampling. The physical activity and sleep quality instrument were used Godin Leisure Time Exercise Questionnaire (GLTEQ) and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Data analysis was used Spearman’s rho with a confidence level of 95%. Result: The result of GLTEQ showed 71 respondents (17,15%) were in active category, 125 respondent (30,19%) were in moderate active category, and 218 respondents (52,66%) were in less active category. The result of PSQI showed 113 respondents (27,29%) had a good of sleep quality and 301 respondent (72,71%) had poor sleep quality. The highest percentage component is daytime disfuction. The data analysis using spearman’s rho showed p = 0.000 (p<0.05) and the correlation coefficient is 0,623. Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between physical activity and sleep quality in young adult in East Jakarta, the relationship is strong, and there is a tendency for respondents in active category to have a higher chance of having a good sleep quality, while respondents in less active category have a higher chance of having poor sleep quality.
