Abstract

Physical inactivity is a burden on global public health, especially for women, as an effect from the habit of staying still in a long time, which is called a sedentary lifestyle. Low physical activity can increase the risk of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases, osteoporosis, and the risk of death. World Health Organization (WHO) states that physical activity should be carried out at least 60 minutes, 3 times per week, in moderate to strong intensity and most of them should be aerobic. Aerobic fitness is the ability to move large muscles and the entire body at moderate to strong intensity for long periods of time. Zumba is the largest and most successful aerobic dance fitness exercise in the world, a combination of Latin-style dance movements with the elements of meringue, pop, reggateon, cumbia, mambo, salsa, flamenco, rumba and calypso. According to a study, zumba exercise that are done 2 times a week for 8 weeks of training was able to improve aerobic fitness (+ 21%) than the control group. This study aims to obtain information about effectivness of zumba exercise for aerobic fitness in sedentary women. The research method used in this 2 study is a literatur review. This study concludes that zumba exercise is proven to improve aerobic fitness (VO2max) and very suitable for sedentary women.
