Abstract
Background: Stunting is a chronic nutritional problem characterized by height growth that is not appropriate for age. One of the factors that influence stunting is exclusive breastfeeding. Breast milk contains macronutrient and micronutrient nutrients that the body needs. These nutrients can fulfill nutrients, help the growth process and act as anti-infection. Inadequate breastfeeding causes children to have poor nutrition and immunity which can lead to malnutrition and lead to stunting. Objective: This study aimed to determine the effect of exclusive breastfeeding on the incidence of stunting in children under five. Methodology: The research method used was a critical review. This study used five articles indexed by Sinta S1-S4 and Scopus Q1-Q4 with the keywords "Stunting", "Exclusive Breastfeeding", "Maternal and Child Nutrition", "Stunting in Toddlers", "Exclusive Breastfeeding", and "Nutritional Status and Exclusive Breastfeeding". Articles taken in this study were within the last 10 years (2011-2020). Inclusion criteria for full text articles followed the criteria; articles in Indonesian and English, the same research subjects and non-experimental research types. Exclusion criteria for subjects aged 0-23 months, articles were not indexed by Sinta and Scopus. Results: The results of a five-article study through a critical review showed that exclusive breastfeeding had a significant correlation with the incidence of stunting in children under five. Exclusive breastfeeding played important roles as protection against stunting because breast milk contained nutrients that could increase endurance, prevent infection and contained nutrients that functioned for growth. so that children could grow optimally and avoid the risk of chronic diseases that caused stunting. Conclusion: Exclusive breastfeeding is one of the factors that influence stunting in toddlers.
