Abstract
Casting is a process of melting metal by melt it down, then poured into a mold dan let it freeze in the mold. One of the factors that affected the result of castings is the method that we used. The purpose of the study is to know the comparison the effect of casting methods and temperature variations on the value of hardness, chemical composition, and surface texture (macro photo) of cast product. This research was conducted using scrap aluminum material that is melted in the smelting kitchen, with the method of sand casting and lost foam casting temperature variations of 700°C and 750°C. That result showed that from the chemical composition testing there are several elements that become most influential on cast aluminum, it was Al 87,34 %, Si 9,120 %, Cu 1,794% and Mg 0,672%. Seen from the elements present in this material, it can be classified as aluminum alloy with silicon, copper and magnesium (Al-Si-Cu-Mg). From the result of surface texture observations using macro photos, cast product with the sand casting method have a smoother surface than the lost foam casting method at both temperature variations. The highest vickers hardness value was found in the sand casting method with a temperature variation of 700°C which reached 119 VHN, and at a temperature variation of 750°C the hardness value decreased to 100 VHN. While the hardness value in the lost foam casting method with a temperature variation of 700°C reaches 97 VHN and increases at a temperature variation of 750°C to 99 VHN.
