Abstract
This study aims to evaluate the addition of bioethanol into gasoline against the engine performance and exhaust gas emissions. In this experiment, bagasse waste was used to produce bioethanol. The properties of bioethanol were tested before adding to pure gasoline fuel. Experiments were carried out by a single-cylinder four-stroke engine ranging to 4,000-7,200 rpm of speed engine. Torque and power resulted from combustion process were then evaluated. Based on the properties tests of bioethanol with 96%, it was found that the calorific value is about 8,220.78 kcal/kg, while the flashpoint is around 16.5 oC. Unfortunately, the produced bioethanol does not reach the highest quality as expected for combustion requirement due to a limited treatment process. From the addition of 10% bioethanol, both torque and power are less than that of the use of pure gasoline fuel. It is attributed to the quality of bioethanol used in the experiment, which causes the quality of blended fuel. The addition of 10% bioethanol into gasoline causes a slight increase for CO emission from 0.09 to15%, while HC decrease from 2.35 to 1.86 ppm.
