Abstract
Gasification is a thermochemical conversion process of solid fuels into a gaseous fuel in the presence of a quantity of limited oxygen for stoichiometric combustion. The gas produced is carbon monoxide, hydrogen, carbon dioxide, methane, and small particulates such as charcoal, ash, tar. Fluidized Bed Gasifier is one of gasification technology with a fluidized medium in form of air and a bed material in form of silica sand. The purpose of this research is to determine the effect of air velocity on syngas compositions produced. The research method is conducted by simulation on CPFD using Barracuda Virtual Reactor 17.1 software. The design of a fluidized bed bubbling type reactor model with a diameter of 400 mm and a height of 3800 mm. The fuel used wood pellets sized 7-8 mm. The bed material used silica sand-sized 100–300 µm. This research uses 3 variations of air velocity 0.07 m/s, 0.08 m/s, and 0.09 m/s. The result of this research has proven that an increase in air velocity could decrease the syngas compositions produced. The air velocity of 0.07 m/s produces high syngas compositions, while an air velocity of 0.09 m/s produces low syngas compositions.
