Abstract
The research objective was to know: 1) the effect of parents' income on their interest in continuing their studies. 2) the influence of peer environment on interest in continuing studies. 3) the influence of parents' income and peer environment on interest in continuing studies. The method used in this research is quantitative with survey design. The population in this study were all students of XI IPS SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Karanganyar, a total of 198 respondents with a sample taken of 95 respondents using simple random sampling. Methods of data collection through documentation and questionnaires. The data analysis technique used multiple linear regression. The results of the study Y = 21.489 + 0.691 X1 + 0.151 X2. Based on the results of the analysis and discussion, it is concluded that: 1) Parents' income has a significant positive effect on the interest in continuing the study as evidenced by the sig value of 0.000 (<0.05). 2) The peer environment has a significant positive effect on the interest in continuing the study as evidenced by the sig value of 0.009 (<0.05). 3) Parents' income and peer environment together have a significant positive effect as evidenced by the value of Fcount> Ftable, namely 13.608> 3.09 and sig 0.000 (<0.05). Parents' income variable provides an effective contribution of 14.67% relative to 64.34%. The peer environment variable gave an effective contribution of 8.17% relative to 35.83%. The coefficient of determination is 0.228, which means that 22.8% interest in continuing the study is influenced by the income of parents and peer environment, the remaining 77.2% is influenced by other variables not examined in this study.
