Abstract
Mathematics is a universal science that underlies the development of modern technology. To master and develop one of the mathematical abilities, namely the ability to connect mathematics. The problem of problem solving ability in mathematics can be seen in the cognitive style of students. This study aims to describe the ability of mathematical connections with field dependent and field independent cognitive styles in solving math story problems. This type of research is descriptive qualitative research. The research subjects consisted of 4 students. The data was collected by means of tests, interviews and documentation. Data analysis was carried out by reducing, presenting, and drawing conclusions. Based on the results of the research, students with field independent cognitive style were able to have 3 stages, namely connecting mathematics with other disciplines, connecting mathematics topics and linking mathematics with everyday life. and linking mathematics with everyday life. The results showed that the FI subject in solving story problems was more coherent than the FD subject. The FD subject had difficulty connecting the relationships between mathematical topics. This inability causes errors in the results of the answers obtained.
