Abstract

This research aims at: 1) classifying the types of translation techniques, and 2) describing the quality of the translation used in the Entrok into The Years of The Voiceless novel by Madasari. This type of research is descriptive qualitative. The data of this research are sentences in the novel Entrok and its translations. The document is taken from the novel Entrok and its translation, The Years of The Voiceless. In analyzing the data, researcher used the theory of translation techniques by Molina and Albir (2002) and the theory of translation quality assessment by Nababan (2010). The findings of this study shows that: first, from 2.684 data, there were only 17 from 18 translation techniques proposed by Molina and Albir (2002) used to translate this novel. The techniques were borrowing, calque, literal translation, transposition, adaptation, amplification, generalization, established equivalent, particularization, modulation, reduction, substitution, variation, description, discursive creation, linguistic amplification, linguistic compression. Second, from 2.684 data, the quality of the translation indicates acceptable, accurate and readable.
