Abstract

Orthodontics is a way to improve and maintain oral health and create an attractive smile. Stainless steel is one of the materials that is often used in removable orthodontic appliances. The use of orthodontic wire in the oral cavity has the potential to experience corrosion. The use of inhibitors can reduce the corrosion of stainless steel orthodontic wire. One of the organic inhibitors is pandan leaves. Stainless steel orthodontic wire is the type of wire most often used today in orthodontic treatment. The use of stainless steel wire in the oral cavity can also cause corrosion. The causes of corrosion include the influence of changes in temperature, microflora, enzymes in the oral cavity, and changes in acidity (pH). The addition of an organic inhibitor, namely pandan leaf extract, can reduce the occurrence of corrosion on stainless steel wire. pandan leaf extract can be used as a natural inhibitor in inhibiting the corrosion process of a metal.
