Abstract

Copyright as a part of the field of Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) is a very personal or exclusive right for the creator or copyright holder to announce or reproduce the copyright without reducing restrictions according to applicable laws and regulations. One of the creations protected according to Article 40 paragraph (1) letter a of Law Number 28 of 2014 concerning Copyright is books, pamphlets, published works and all other written works. This research aims to 1). Knowing the legal protection provided by the Act to authors and publishers as book copyright holders; 2). Knowing what obstacles are encountered to protect authors and publishers against piracy as a form of application of the Copyright Act; 3). Know the efforts made by authors and publishers to tackle the problem of book piracy. This type of research is juridical-research with a qualitative sociological approach. The issue of copyright in addition to involving the interests of the copyright holders themselves, also indirectly affects the publisher because it is the publishers who are directly involved in preserving the authors' creations. But the main factor influencing book piracy in society is the habit of the public to buy pirated goods whose prices are much cheaper than the original book. This is what causes the circulation of many illegal books on the market. Therefore, legal protection is needed for writers and publishers to overcome the obstacles to book piracy and how efforts are made to solve them.
